I remember vividly, when back in 1998, a new marketing tool was offered to Realtors that carried the label “Virtual Tour”. Back then, of course, most people that surfed the web were subscribers to AOL, crawling on the information highway by way of a modem. Consequently, images loaded at a snail’s pace on a monitor, let alone a 360-degree virtual tour. Nonetheless, VT’s were considered the hottest thing since the invention of sliced bread. Today, the technology of stitching together separate photos to combine them into a single panoramic image that allows a person to view a room from every angle, has come a long way. It is widely used by the majority of Realtors for marketing properties.

With the increased availability and use of broadband Internet, however, a new kid has come on the block: Video. And it’s giving VT’s a run for their money. Fred Light, a professional videographer from Nashua, NH puts forth a number of compelling reasons why a video tour beats a virtual (360°) tour any day, when it comes to marketing a property. On video, of course.

If you’ve been perusing my daily compilation of homes that are for sale in Edgebrook and Sauganash on 60646 Blog, you may have been appreciating the fact that you are able to see the entire inventory on one page (with links to additional details). But you may have been missing an added convenience which would be to actually have these properties mapped, in order to get a feel for their exact location. Well, this is about to change.

I am starting out with Edgebrook, and I’ll work my way over to Sauganash later this week, but go ahead and take a peek at Edgebrook, for now. Bonus: If you are using the Google Earth application (free download), these maps will allow you to download and save a so-called KML file to your computer that automatically imports these listings into your GE software.
